Tervetuloa – Welcome to Finncare

Finncare is the nation’s only aged care provider for the Australian Finnish community, and is based in the bayside suburb of Thornlands. Finncare operates three service divisions: Residential Aged Care, Retirement Living and Home Support Services. These three divisions provide a range of support services and care options for older people from the Australian Finnish, Scandinavian and wider Australian communities.

ABOUT FINNCARE

Finncare has an onsite café, hairdresser and gym, all of which are available to our residents. A Finnish library is curated by our wonderful volunteers, saunas are available in both our residential aged care and retirement village, and Finnish speaking staff are available. We love to celebrate Finnish holidays (as well as Australian ones!), and never miss an opportunity to celebrate with a Täytekakku on days such as Independence Day. We keep in touch with our Finnish roots through connections with Finnish organisations (both here and in Finland) and activities that celebrate our heritage.

Finncare began as a committee known as the Australian Finnish Rest Home Association Inc., which was registered in 1975. Representatives from Finnish groups across Australia banded together to fundraise and build a place for older Finnish people to go in their later years in Australia – a home away from home. Due to the determination and ‘sisu’ shown by the Finnish community, the first stage of Finlandia Village (as it was known then) was opened in 1986.

Many changes have taken place since then and almost forty years later, Finncare is a leading independent provider of aged care services – not just for the Finnish community, but for everyone.

For a quick overview of all we provide in a printable format, please download our handy Information Booklet.

COVID-19

Finncare operates in accordance with the recommendations of the Queensland Government with regard to the ongoing management of COVID-19. Please refer to Queensland Health’s advice around this.

Finncare will, at its discretion, lockdown the facility if an outbreak of COVID-19 occurs. This is in line with actions taken for other infectious diseases in aged care settings, such as gastroenteritis.

To protect everyone against the spread of COVID-19 (and other infectious diseases), please ensure that you stay at home if you are feeling unwell, and practice good hand hygiene on the site. You will be asked to undertake a RAT test on arrival at Finncare, if you are entering the facility.

Visiting Hours

Coming to visit the facility? Please enter through front reception, which is open Monday to Friday from 0900 – 1600, and weekends / public holidays from 1000 – 1400.

Welcome to Finncare

Finncare

In 2010 Finncare embarked on plans to redevelop their facilities at Thornlands in Qld. These plans include new buildings and facilities but also developing the base of information we provide to the community at large and particularly the various Finnish groups. Part of this drive is expansion of our on-line presence. We welcome you to explore our new website and discover who we are and how we can help you and your family now and into the future.
